Saturday, October 15th, Ventana Fine Art, 400 Canyon Road, Santa Fe!

I’ll be painting outside under beautifully blue New Mexico skies from 11-3pm. Join me for the Canyon Road Paint Out. It’s always lots of fun to see old friends and make new friends. Don’t miss the festivities. Bring your appetite, we'll go grab enchiladas afterward. What’s your pleasure, red chile, green chile, or Christmas?

A tube of Payne’s Gray paint jumped out and landed in my hand recently. I thought to myself, I don’t use THIS color! Well, I do now. Apparently.

It’s day two into this one. We’ll see where it leads. Payne’s Gray kind of snuck up on me I guess.

How many shades of red does a painter need? Just one.

More.

I do love the tension created by adjacency of similar colors and similar values. It makes me happy.

Here’s an example of a palette of reds that I find especially visually satisfying. Perylene Red, Quinacridone Magenta, Cadmium Red, and Cadmium Orange.

You see, you can’t please every one. So, you’ve got to please yourself.”
